Secrets to beautiful skin

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Beauty Tip: What is the single best thing you can do for your skin?
Quite simply - wear sunscreen. Ultraviolet radiation damages the skin and can lead to wrinkles, premature aging, age spots, and cancer. Take extra precautions to make sure your skin is not exposed to the sun’s rays. Use a natural sunscreen, or a moisturizer that contains sunscreen (at least SPF 15) everyday.

What is the second best thing you can do for your skin?
Drink lots of water. That means at least 8 glasses of water a day. Drinking water is one of the best ways to keep your skin healthy. Water helps to hydrate the skin and move waste and nutrients through the system.

Beauty Tip: Things you do daily for your skin.
Aside from the sunscreen and the water consumption, exercise, rest, and good nutrition lay the foundation for beautiful, healthy skin. A proper diet is not only good for your overall health, it also helps to ensure that your skin will receive all of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that it needs to maintain and repair cells.

Ways to combat the dry skin that comes with age.
Older skin has fewer sweat and oil glands than younger skin. Dry skin may be caused by frequent baths, certain cosmetics or medications. Avoid using harsh soaps when bathing, and if possible, cut back on the number of baths or showers each week. A sponge bath with warm water may help to clean and revive skin without stripping the skin of its valuable moisturizers. When you do use soap, try using a natural very mild soap that does not contain any dyes, parabens or perfumes. Follow up the bath with a moisturizing lotion concentrating on problem dry areas. A good all natural moisturizer is one of the foundations for a healthy skin care regimen. Continue moisturizing throughout the day to keep skin healthy. Your hands and face are particularly susceptible to daily damage, and may need to be moisturized several times.

Fashionable Hats - The Perfect Accessory for Your Summer

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Hats are pretty as well as practical. When you wear a hat you automatically protect your face from the irreversible damages caused by too much sunlight. When you find the perfect sun hat, you have done your face a favor. Never mind that it goes perfectly with your favorite short shorts, mesh skirt, beach bag, or bikini - those are all just the bonus. The true advantage to having a hat to wear in the sun is the advantage it provides for your skin. Hats are hot for both boys and girls this summer. With a wide variety of styles to choose from it is important to make sure that your children have this show stopping piece of summer fashion ready for any event.

Hats are one of the hot summer fashion trends for toddlers. From straw sun hats to the basic baseball cap, hats in all shapes and sizes are making a big splash at the playgrounds this summer. They look cool and give any outfit a finished look. Besides being a piece of fashion, a summer hat can help to keep your toddler cool on even the hottest days.

Adventure hats: They have a distinctive safari look but are designed in an unmistakably feminine style. There is more than one style of these adventure beach hats in design. Some are flat on one end like a visor, and softer (more fabric-like and flexible) on the other. Perfect for a beach hat to wear on a safari or other summer adventure. So if this is your style find the one best for you.

Beach hats: These beauties of beach hats have softer tops and visor-style rims in front that go a bit further than a visor and then the rim softens around the back so it will also protect your neck. The best feature of the resort- style beach hat is the scarf that ties around it above the rim and hangs gently down over the back. These beach hats will come with a scarf but are interchangeable you can use whatever scarf you want. It is like having several beach hats in one.

Cotton hats: Another great hat that is inexpensive and easy to find in a variety of colors and patterns is a golfer’s style cotton hat. This type of hat can look more urban funk or preppy conservative depending on what you pair it with.  For the preppy look on women, wear it with a polo shirt, city shorts, and white canvas sneakers.  Men can get the preppy look by wearing it with a polo or button down, tailored khaki slacks, and loafers.

How to Dress Fashionably

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Ever wonder how certain people always look put together? It’s because they’re dressing fashionably and have their own sense of style! By following these steps, you can be on your way to having a fantastic, fashionable wardrobe.
Organize: Get out all your clothes and decide which ones you want and don’t want. Throw out everything that you haven’t worn in a year (that isn’t seasonal), doesn’t fit anymore or is plain ugly! Donate it all to a charity or a second hand store. Your trash could be someone else’s treasure!

Flatter: Look at yourself in the mirror and as objectively as possible, pick things about your physical appearance you like and dislike. What do you want to disguise? What do you want to emphasize? What’s your body type?

Style: What do you like? Do you want to incorporate trendy items into your wardrobe, or do you prefer a classic look? Spend time flipping through catalogs, or surfing websites that feature clothes. Do you even want to figure out a way to incorporate witty T-shirts, or is pleather more your style? There are tons of different pieces that will look phenomenal on you- what do you like?

Context: Where you live, where you go and what you do are major factors in dressing fashionably! If you wear a ballgown to the office that’s not fashionable; if you wear a business suit to the prom, likewise. Think about what kind of clothing is appropriate for the things you’re going to be doing.

Shop: The best thing to do is to buy long-lasting pieces that will retain their class throughout seasons. Fashion changes extremely quickly! Don’t fill your wardrobe with things that won’t be appropriate the same time next year, and don’t spend a lot of money on fashion items. Think about step 4 again. What kinds of coats, jackets or sweaters do you need? Put this kind of information in the context of what flatters your body.

Shop more: Now that you’ve got the basics, it’s time to have fun! Buy some great shoes, cute accessories and get a haircut! No need to go classic here unless that’s your taste- handbags, shoes and jewelry is the place to show your sassy side. Bright purple pleather trench looks too tacky? A handbag in the same style will be fantastic.

On the Go Again: Packing Cute Yet Durable Clothing

Monday, June 15th, 2009

I love the convenience of finding great dresses and tunics for summer that are tough enough to fold up into an overnight bag or weekender.  As someone who is almost always on the go and hardly ever home, I often find myself needing to pack an overnight bag, when this is the case, I begin to appreciate durable clothing that I can take with me…and as much as I love wearing a t-shirt and jeans, I also love being able to bring cute dresses with pretty details, kind of like this Free People Alissa Lace Dress. This dress is really short, but I think it would look absolutely adorable with some short denim cut offs. The lace on it has beautiful detailing and there is a flirty little hem on bottom. This is my first favorite characteristic, the second is the T back with metal grommets. Another classic combination of feminine and rugged detailing.

This dress would be perfect for throwing into your overnight bag and going.  It would look great with some boyish looking oxford shoes

Luxury labels are still active in our life

Monday, June 15th, 2009

The economic downturn has done little to dampen demand for luxury fashion. At one department store yesterday, wealthy customers sat in private rooms drinking champagne as clothes, shoes and handbags were paraded before them. Its rival has just taken delivery of another shipment of designer bags.

The designers Sass & Bide and Jayson Brunsdon have opened at Westfield Bondi Junction, and Chanel and Louis Vuitton will follow in mid-July.Myer is expanding its collection of luxury designers, according to its communications manager, Mitch Caitlin. Its roster will include Donna Karan and Narciso Rodriguez.

Believing consumers are choosing one long-lasting “investment piece” over lots of little outfits, the store has targeted high-end fashion and will add Vera Wang to its line-up. “We’ve been surprised at how our international designer stable has held up during the downturn, it’s actually been one of our better performers,” Mr Caitlin said.

Myer is offering viewings to its wealthy customers. “It’s personal pampering. Some of these pieces cost several thousand and the clients that regularly spend that much are given first chance to view and buy.”Despite admitting it faces the toughest retail environment in years, David Jones has received another shipment of bags by Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Yves Saint Laurent.

Do You Know The Truth About Platinum?

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Platinuw which is very expensive has already became an important part of fashion world. But how far do you know about platinum?

Is platinum a new metal?
After all, in the past, one would associate diamonds with gold. Nowadays, the most expensive fine jewelry designs set diamonds in platinum.

The truth is, platinum has been on this earth for billions of years. This brilliant metal really came from the skies. Meteorites contain platinum and meteorites have been landing on earth for billions of years already.

Kind of romantic if you think about it.

That pure white platinum jewelry could once have been part of a star. Part of a meteorite that travelled through space before it landed in our world.

Ironically, there was a time when platinum was thought to be an inferior metal by people searching for gold. Platinum looks like silver, so in 1590, when the Spanish discovered platinum, they named it platina, which means little silver. The newly rediscovered platinum was thrown back into the river, its value totally misunderstood at that time.

2 centuries later, King Louis XVI of France declared platinum to be the only metal fit for kings. Thus began the love of platinum by the royals. In fact, the late Queen Mother, Queen Elisabeth’s crown was made of platinum. Owning a piece of platinum jewelry today gives you something in common with the royals. Both you and the royals wear platinum.

Even Hollywood Royalty appreciates the value of platinum. The King, Elvis Presley exchanged platinum wedding rings with his wife Priscilla. Joe Dimaggio gave Marilyn Monroe 3 carat solitaire diamond platinum engagement ring. Movie legends would set their diamonds in platinum. In fact, diamond platinum engagement rings are the preferred engagement rings of the well heeled.

Platinum is a special metal. It does not fade or tarnish. It does not corrode. In fact, it is so lasting, platinum was used to make the standard kilogram weight. Platinum is eternal. Diamonds are eternal. That is one of the reasons why diamonds and platinum are the perfect match.

Another reason why diamonds an platinum go together is the color of platinum. Platinum is a brilliant white. Diamonds are graded on their color among other factors. The whiter the diamond, the higher its value. When a diamond is set in platinum, the whiteness of the platinum makes the diamond look whiter, brighter, more precious.

Platinum is extremely pliable. It can be drawn into a very fine wire very easily. Yet it is so strong. That means jewellers can create very intricate jewelry pieces with platinum. Jewellers can create fine prongs with platinum with which to hold the diamond, yet these thin prongs are so strong they hold the diamond securely.

Diamonds aside, platinum is the metal of choice for anyone who has sensitive skin. Jewelry rash can occur even with gold jewelry. The impurities in most other metals, including gold, can cause a rash. The rash could even happen years later, after wearing the jewelry daily for long periods of time.

Platinum wearers don’t have to worry about jewelry rash. Platinum is 95% pure. Platinum is hypoallergenic, so the best way to deal with a jewelry rash is to switch to platinum.

The problem with platinum is that it is so rare. It is 35 times rarer than gold. There is so little platinum on earth, yet its uses are so wide. Because platinum is compatible with the human body, platinum is used in medicine, to make pace makers, for example. Platinum is also a catalyst and is essential in many chemical processes. Platinum is such a precious metal that during World War II, U.S. banned platinum from being used for any non-military purpose. That is why, for so many years, platinum was not used in jewelry making.

Due to its rarity, platinum is an excellent precious metal to invest in. Anything that is so rare and has so many uses would appreciate in price, with time, which makes platinum jewelry a wise investment.

So I believe you are already very eager to have a platinuw ring or something else for you, right?

Then pat and brush the dry powder off.

Jewelry can remind us of those events in our life that are important to us. We often smile as we remember happy past events like the ring with all the birthstones of your children or grandchildren, the anniversary ring that he gave you at a quiet, candlelit dinner, and the charm a friend gave you so you’d always remembering the summer you went off to camp together.

Look through our list for ideas that might just fit your gift giving needs.

Your daughter’s first Prom is just around the corner. Find a simple pendant that matches the color of her dress or a small diamond to hand from a small link necklace. It’s very feminine and will be treasured for years.

You have a friend who loves dogs or a particular breed of dog? Maybe she loves cats, horses, birds, or fish. You can find ceramic pins that have been molded and painted to look just like the real thing. Look for gold pendants that reflect the animal to which she’s emotionally attached.

Men still love those gold necklaces. They add a bit of sparkle but are still quite manly. Choose the chain pattern to suit the man; a twisted, diamond cut rope, a shimmering herringbone, a pave curb, or a mariner style.

For a special friend, find a bracelet of pearls or one that from silver chains. Add a small oval disk that has your initials on one side and hers or his initials on the other.

With summer sandals, ladies toe rings are back in style. Find a silver or gold one and have her initials engraved. Some of them have detailed engraving, or have imitation or real stones mounted on them. One of the easiest toe rings to wear is made from stretchy thread with little stones strung on them.

Ladies love earrings and a new one has just arrived: chandelier earrings. They hang from 1 inches to 3-4 inches in length. Many are handcrafted twists and turns of metal with beads and stones in the design. Some are just straight drops of wire or metal with one precious gem on the end.
